A British recruitment consultant was jailed for four weeks on Monday for kicking a policeman with intent to deter him from discharging his duty.
Luke Raymond Chapman, 31, admitted to causing hurt to Corporal Amirul Haikal Khairudin, 21, along Raffles Avenue on Sept 17 last year.
A district court heard that Chapman was detained at Esplanade Mall for a case of outrage of modesty. He was reeking of alcohol and was aggressive from the time he was detained.
When police came and arrested him, he kicked one of the two police cars. There was no visible damage. Seeing that he was aggressive, Cpl Amirul helped his two colleagues to hold Chapman's shoulder and pull him towards the police car.
The victim also warned him to co-operate. Suddenly Chapman kicked the victim's right leg with his left leg.
The other officers helped to bring him to the police vehicle and reasonable force was used.
Chapman was cleared of molesting a 29-year-old woman and punching a 22-year-old waiter after he settled the cases by paying them $5,000 and $500 respectively. He also apologised to them in open court.
