Can't live without their maids? NTU students make them clean hostel rooms

STOMPer Squirrel was surprised to read about NTU students who even bring their maids to campus -- to clean their hostel rooms. They are not only lazy, but this is also against the law, says the STOMPer.

In the report in Lianhe Wanbao (Feb 3), it was apparently reported in the Nanyang Chronicle that a female student she often saw maids coming and going from the hostels, brought in by other undergraduates, to help them clean their rooms and wash their clothes.

Although most may think that this is allowed -- as the maid is already helping them in their home -- this is not. According to the law, maids can only do work in the address stated on their employment contract.

Said the STOMPer:

"I cannot believe it! So old still need maid to baby them, clean their room, wash their clothes?

"Uni hall life means independence! What for stay in hall if you still need your maid? Then you should just jolly well stay at home.

"Being a former NTU student, this is so embarrassing. What a laughing stock these people are.

"Plus, according to the report, it's against the law! Tsk, tsk, tsk, university students should know better!

"No commonsense, plus no sense of independence, plus such a large amount of laziness...

"Will they also hire people to do their assignments and projects for them too?

"Being busy at school is no excuse.

"And even if it's their parents who insist the maid go and clean their hostel room, they should flatly refuse.

"You are old enough to take care of yourself. Even a freshman, who is 18 going on 19, should be mature enough!"

nonsense, thats not even an NTU toilet. Only 2 halls have private bathrooms, and that is definitely not the layout of an ntu private bathroom.

When the bus i was in picked up undergraduates from SMU, NTU or NUS, the minute they opened their mouths, my jaw dropped at the poor standard of spoken english. And it's getting from bad to worse. Really embarrassing. Once i overheard tourists asking "are they speaking english?" PATHETIC!
