A 13-year-old teenager has attracted flak from netizens for mocking the Chinese New Year as a 'senseless' rehash of New Year's Day in a video posted online.
In the latest offering on his video channel, Amos Yee questioned the existence of Chinese New Year before poking fun at the Chinese Zodiac through a skit which implied that the Chinese New Year is a rip-off of a Western tradition.
The video has gone viral and has since attracted over 700 comments, with the bulk of them critical of the teenager’s latest upload.
One netizen summed up the majority's feelings that Yee was ‘making himself a big joke’ by acting like an ‘American wannabe’, due to his accent, before adding that the Lunar New Year is celebrated not just in China but in other nations other as well.
Another hopes that this incident might show that ‘not everyone succeeds in making a fame out of making a fool of themselves.
