STOMPer jacqueline and her mother managed to make uncooked eggs stand on a flat surface due to the strong energy from the earth during the first day of spring on the Chinese lunar calendar (lap chun).
This year, lap chun, or li chun (立春 ) fell on Feb 4 at 6.22pm. It is believed that on lap chun, chi/qi energy from the earth is at its strongest and many balance uncooked eggs on flat surfaces to herald this day.
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, this year is especially auspicious as there is a double lap chun, one falling on Feb 4, 2012, and the other on Feb 3, 2013. Many believe this year will be good to start new ventures, get married and have children.
An online article mentions it is possible to balance an egg at any time, however, perhaps due to the belief that the egg will stand, "...you will try a little harder, be more patient, and use steadier hands. If you believe that eggs won't balance on other days, this belief is transmitted subconsciously to your hands."
Said jacqueline in her email:
"Eggs can stand!
"My mummy and I made all these eggs stand, nothing to support but because we read the newspaper that it's because of lap chun.
"During this time, the chi/qi energy from the earth is said to be at its strongest."
