STOMPer Needaseat says this family took up not one, not two, but three tables for their discussion at Ben and Jerry's at Great World City while groups of potential patrons were left standing around.
The STOMPer related the incident:
"I was at Ben and Jerry's at Great World City on Saturday night, around 9pm. I was with three other friends and we decided to eat some ice-cream and have coffee before going home.
"The Ben and Jerry's outlet was not very crowded, but all the tables had been taken. I walked around the place hoping to spot any empty tables.
"I noticed this group of four, presumably family members or relatives sitting in the centre of the outlet. I walked in and was frustrated when I saw them taking up three tables and just sitting there, chatting happily amongst themselves.
"There were some empty chairs nearby and I had wanted to move the chairs to an empty table so the four of us could sit down. We did not want to interrupt their conversation and just stood there waiting for them, hoping they would get the hint and at least give us one table out of their three.
"We stood there for 15 minutes while this family continued to chat. They had long finished the single bowl of ice-cream they had ordered but still refused to move.
"I understand I have no right to chase them away, but they should at least be thoughtful enough to give up one miserable table so that the four of us can share it.
"At 9:20pm, we managed to get a table when another patron left. The four of us squeezed at the table with four chairs, while this family of four had the most luxurious seating arrangement. They continued to chat until about 9:45pm before they decided to leave.
"All the while, there were pockets of potential customers standing around the place, all hoping to get a table.
"We were speculating on the possible reason for their behaviour:
"1) They might have been trying to settle an argument or dispute, hence, they decided not to sit so close to each other.
"2) They might have been shareholders or owners of Ben and Jerry's, giving them the right to sit there for such a long time taking up three tables. Afterall, they control the revenue.
"Notwithstanding these guesses, we rest our case but decided to share with everyone how ungracious some families can be."
