46-year-old personal chauffer Kho Nai Guan and his Chinese girlfriend Mdm Lan Ya Ming's decomposing bodies were found in an abandoned car on the seventh storey car park of Orchard Towers in January 2002.

Kho's British employer Michael McCrea and his Singaporean girlfriend Audrey Ong were subsequently arrested in Melbourne. While Ong agreed to be extradited to Singapore for the trial, McCrea resisted it fiercely.

After more than three years of futile appeals against the extradition order, McCrea is flown back to Singapore for the trial.

A security camera in Orchard Towers records a silver Daewoo Chairman 400 being driven into the carpark in the afternoon.

Martial-arts instructor Peter Chong, 61, and his son Jackie, 31, finish teaching a class on the seventh and uppermost floor of the carpark, which is usually deserted, and decide to check the silver Daewoo which they had seen parked there since Friday.

Mr Peter Chong sees caked mud on the wheels and through the windows, a bundle all wrapped up in a tablecloth on the back seat. When he gets close, a stench hits him, and he alerts the building's security officers. They call the police, and a locksmith opens the car.

The decomposing bodies of a man and a woman are found in the car.

The man's body is found in a 1.5 m by 0.5 m wicker basket left on the back seat. It is splattered with red and white candle wax and covered with a red-and-white plastic tablecloth.

The woman's body is found in the boot, along with some wilted roses and dried flowers.

A corkscrew, a champagne glass, and a romantic note found in the car suggest plans for a romantic outing or picnic.
