No one knew what happened to two-year-old Nonoi when she disappeared on 1 March 2006.

Nurasyura Mohamed Fauzi, or ‘Nonoi’, simply vanished into thin air.

Her step-grandfather was thought to have last seen her, sleeping peacefully at his home.

There was a massive search party sent out for the toddler, with police, family, friends and volunteers, combing the neighbourhood.

Two days later, her step-father, Mohd Ali, broke down and confessed to the police. He led them to the spot when he had dumped her body in a wedge under the Aljunied flyover. Now, he is on trial for her murder.

The trial was not without its surprises and threw up an unexpected revelation along the way.

Nonoi’s biological father was not Mohamed Fauzi Abdul Kadil, as everyone assumed, because she was thought to have been conceived when her mother was married to him, but Khairul Mohd Amin.
