It is possible for members of Malaysia’s elite police force to smuggle out explosives during training sessions
without being detected, a senior officer testified yesterday.
Assistant Commissioner Mastor Mohd Ariff, No.2 at the UTK elite force, said no records were kept on the quantity used.
A prosecution witness in the murder trial, Mr Mastor said his men regularly held practice sessions on the use of firearms and explosives.
They trained with plastic explosives as well as stun grenades, a type of bomb used to confuse or momentarily distract enemies.
All weapons taken from the police warehouse were recorded, and unused items were returned, said Mr Mastor, who gave a rare glimpse into the workings of his unit.
But he added that it was possible for personnel to claim to have used some of the explosives when they actually had not.
The unit, he said, did not conduct spot checks at the homes of its personnel to look for weapons.
Mr Mastor also said yesterday that his unit does not use C-4 explosives, the type widely speculated to have been used to kill the Mongolian, a former lover
of Abdul Razak.
The prosecution has not indicated if this was actually the case. The pathologist’s report merely stated that she died of probable blast-related injuries.
