The items include a spinal column, a skull, human skin and tissues, rib bones, lumps of hair, teeth, explosives, a rubber tube, a wire and a claymore mine cable.
CSI unit head of the police’s Forensic Department Supt Amidon Anan, 56, told this to the High Court here today.
C/Insp Azilah Hadri, 31 and another operative of the police’s Special Action Unit, Cpl Sirul Azhar Umar, 36, are alleged to have murdered the 28-year-old Mongolian woman in a jungle in Bukit Raja between 10pm on Oct 19 last year and 1am the following day.
Political analyst Abdul Razak Abdullah Baginda, 47, is charged with abetting them.
Amidon, the 58th prosecution witness, said the search was conducted on Nov 7 and 9, 2006 and also involved personnel from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital’s Patology Department, the ballistic unit of the police’s forensic laboratory and the police’s dog unit.
Earlier, he said he and several forensic personnel followed special investigation staff officer of the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Supt Zainol Samah and a D9 squad to the scene at about 6pm on Nov 6, 2006.
At first, they arrived at a wrong place, he said. At the second location, he met investigation officer ASP Tonny Lunggan who told him that it was there the victim was blown up.
“It was nearly time for Maghrib prayers and the area was quite dark. So, I decided and ordered all men to leave the scene after making a walk through. Azilah and Sirul were also there,” he said.
During the search and collection of the case items, a heavy rain came, he said.
The operation was postponed at about 4.45pm because the area was wet and starting to go dark.
All the items recovered were handed over to Tonny at the scene itself, he said.
Amidon, who was on his feet when testifying, said he and all the teams returned to the scene on Nov 9, 2006 and resumed the work at 10.45am until 4pm.
It was also raining heavily at the time, he said.
“This time, the case items were handed in at Tonny’s office at the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent. All wet items were dried first before they were handed in,” he said.
Amidon also told the court that he also analysed the recordings of a CCTV camera at Hotel Malaya on May 29 this year and confirmed that two men who were seen at the hotel where Altantuya stayed were Azilah and Sirul after comparing the images captured by the camera with three mug shots of the two accused he received from Tonny.
Amidon said he went to the hotel with Tonny and photographer L/Cpl Mohd Rodzaimie.
They were assisted by the hotel’s security manager, Jimmy Loo Mow Chan, to “view and observe” the recordings at the hotel’s security office.
“I asked Jimmy to play the recordings on Oct 18, 2006 from 4.50pm to 5pm twice. I was able capture about eight frames containing Azilah’s and Sirul’s faces or images,” he said.
Asked why he focused on the recordings from 4.50pm to 5pm, he said:
“According to my observation, the men were no longer seen after 5pm.”
Noorin, however, was not satified with the answer and applied for a postponement until Monday, saying that Amidon was probably tired at the time.
Justice Datuk Mohd Zaki Md Yasin granted the postponement.
